German HPC in Context

DescriptionWith the start of SiVeGCS Germany has launched a program to invest 460 Mio Euro for its national supercomputing centers in Jülich, Garching and Stuttgart. First systems will be installed in 2018. The roadmap foresees a new system practically every year until 2023. SiVeGCS is part of the German smart scale strategy introduced last year at ISC 2017. This talk will give an insight into the background and the strategic planning of German HPC. At the same time it will introduce the user driven approach of German HPC by showing key applications and how they will help to foster German and European research, industry and society.
