SUMMARY:What Is Smart? HPC, IoT and AI for Smart Cities and Smart Mobility
DESCRIPTION:Focus Session\n\nIn this session we will address the challenge
s of large cities and complex urban environments from several points of vi
ew and review how HPC and AI can help to increase energy efficiency, ease
mobility and convenience of living and at the same time reduce the environ
mental impact.\n\nMary Ann will kick off the session by focusing on urban
systems in general that attract more and more people and consequently con
sume more than 70% of energy and GHG (Greenhouse Gas Emissions) in most co
untries. She will also present results from a related joint Exascale progr
am that involves several US National Laboratories.\n\nThe first talk will
be complemented by Martin Hauschild who will focus on the challenges car m
anufacturers are facing given new environmental rulings and limits but als
o at the balance of general transport systems vs. individual mobility. In
this context the potential of IoT and the promise of autonomous vehicles a
nd autonomous operation of transport systems will be addressed.\n\nLaurenc
e Liew will provide a different aspect in this session with a specific foc
us on the complex urban infrastructure of Singapore and how its Government
is accelerating AI adoption with dedicated initiatives in AI Research, AI
Technology and AI Industry.\n\nWe will conclude the session with a short
15 minute panel discussion where the audience can challenge the speakers w
ith questions and encourage a lively discussion between the speakers and t
 he attendees.\n\nAccelerating Singapore's AI Adoption\n\nLiew\n\nLaurence
Liew will share about the AI Singapore initiative and its structure and ho
w its three major initiatives in AI Research, AI Technology and AI Industr
y Innovation will accelerate adoption of AI by the Singapore ecosystem. \n
