SUMMARY:(PP10) ESiWACE: Centre of Excellence in Simulation of Weather and
 Climate in Europe
DESCRIPTION:Project Poster\n\n(PP10) ESiWACE: Centre of Excellence in Simu
lation of Weather and Climate in Europe\n\nNeumann\n\nThe Centre of Excell
ence in Simulation of Weather and Climate in Europe (ESiWACE) fosters the
integration of the weather and climate communities by leveraging two estab
lished European networks: the European Network for Earth System Modelling
(ENES) representing the European Climate modelling community, and the Euro
pean Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). A main goal of ESi
WACE is to substantially improve efficiency and productivity of numerical
weather and climate simulation on high-performance computing platforms by
supporting the end-to-end workflow of global Earth system modelling. In pa
rticular, weather and climate models are prepared for the exascale era; in
this scope, ESiWACE establishes demonstrator simulations, which run at hi
ghest affordable resolutions (target 1km) on current PetaFLOP supercompute
rs. This will yield insights into the computability of configurations that
will be sufficient to address key scientific challenges in weather and cl
imate prediction at exascale, such as reducing uncertainties in climate mo
del parametrization or the prediction of extreme climate events.\nThe post
er introduces the ESiWACE objectives and gives an overview of ESiWACE deve
lopments, including scalability and performance results achieved for the h
igh-resolution demonstrators. It further gives an outlook on expected impa
cts of the developments and lists upcoming project activities.\n\nPasses:
Conference Pass, Exhibition Pass, Extreme-Scale Computing, File Systems, H
PC workflows, Parallel Applications\n\nTag: Conference Pass, Exhibition Pa
