SUMMARY:(PP11) EuroEXA: European Co-Design for Exascale Applications
DESCRIPTION:Project Poster\n\n(PP11) EuroEXA: European Co-Design for Exasc
 ale Applications\n\nFroggatt, Hopton\n\nEuroEXA is a €20 million H2020 pro
ject that brings together sixteen partners to design, build and demonstrat
e a groundbreaking architecture for exascale, capable of scaling to 400 PF
LOP (peak) in a system power envelope of 30 MW (peak). The project will de
ploy three testbeds in an operational environment. Testbed 1 (50 nodes, mi
 d 2018) and Testbed 2 (500 nodes, late 2018/early 2019) will enable initia
l software development and testing at scale. Testbed 3 (2020) will deliver
the project’s system architecture, based on cost-efficient modular integr
ation via inter-die links, tape-out of an ARM64 EuroEXA processing unit, a
nd in-package integration of FPGAs for dataflow acceleration. The system w
ill integrate scalable UNIMEM shared memory, hardware memory compression,
low-cost switches, and a hybrid geographic
ally-addressed intra-rack interconnect. The EuroEXA testbeds will employ a
  half-depth 1U chassis hosting 16 daughterboards, each integrating 4 ARM p
rocessors and 4 FPGA accelerators. The project will target a PUE of 1.0 th
rough renewables and immersion cooling.\n\nThe EuroEXA architecture will b
e co-designed to meet the needs of fourteen exascale-class applications, a
cross climate and weather, physics and energy, and life sciences and bioin
formatics. These applications will be ported to the EuroEXA architecture v
ia a complete optimised programming environment (MPI, GPI, OpenStream, Omp
Ss, Maxeler toolchain and PSyClone), with distributed storage through BeeG
FS.\n\nIn summary, EuroEXA builds on a holistic foundation from multiple E
uropean HPC projects to deliver over four times the performance and energy
efficiency of today’s HPC platforms.\n\nPasses: Conference Pass, Exhibiti
on Pass, Exascale Systems\n\nTag: Conference Pass, Exhibition Pass, Exasca
