SUMMARY:(PP18) MYX - MUST Correctness Checking for YML and XMP Programs
DESCRIPTION:Project Poster\n\n(PP18) MYX - MUST Correctness Checking for Y
ML and XMP Programs\n\nProtze, Schwitanski, Müller, Murai, Tsuji...\n\nWit
h rapidly increasing concurrency, the HPC community is looking\nfor new pa
rallel programming paradigms to make best use\nof current and up-coming ma
chines. \nUnder the Japanese CREST funding program, the post-petascale HPC
\nproject developed the XMP programming paradigm, a pragma-based\npartitio
ned global address space (PGAS) approach.\nGood tool support for debugging
and performance analysis is \ncrucial for the productivity and therefore
acceptance of a \nnew programming paradigm.\nIn this project we investigat
e which properties of a parallel programing \nlanguage specification may h
elp tools to highlight correctness and\nperformance issues or help to avoi
d common issues in parallel programming \nin the first place.\nWe exercise
these investigations on the example of XMP and also investigate \nthe que
stion how to improve the reusability of existing correctness and \nperform
ance analysis tools.\nAs a base for further tool development and portabili
ty, we propose a tools\ninterface for XMP.\nSimilar as with the OpenMP too
ls interface, an interested tool can collect\ninformation about the parall
el execution during runtime and apply analysis\non this information.\n\nTo
further increase scalability of parallel applications, the control\nflow
and data flow of the application can be expressed with coarse-grained \nYM
L tasks. \nIn this programming model, YML tasks can be implemented with an
y parallel\nprogramming language. \nFor development it is of interest to t
he programmer, that the individual\ntasks are correct.\nTherefore we provi
de a workflow to apply runtime correctness checking to\nYML tasks.\n\nPass
